The Liebster Award

I've recently been nominated for the Liebster award by 2 fellow bloggers!

Thank-you for thinking of me and my blog Shannah and Gwen!

There are a few rules to be followed upon accepting this award and they include:

- Link back the blogger that tagged you.
- Nominate ten others and answer the questions of the one who tagged you.
- Ask ten questions for the bloggers you nominate.
- Let your nominees know of their awards and tag backs.

Questions Asked by Shannah:

1. Who is your favorite author and why?

I have many, here's a few:

Jane Austin...love her descriptive writing and character development and of course her wonderful stories.

Francine Rivers...such an awesome story teller and she's not afraid to tackle hard issues in her novels.

T.L. Higley...her writing just pulls me into the story and time period, and she always deals with spiritual matters which is something we need to be reminded of, especially in prayer.

A.W. Tozer, Charles Spurgeon and C.S. Lewis are some of my favorite non-fiction authors...I find such wisdom and grace shine through their writings.

2. What made you want to become a blogger?

You can read how this blog started here: About TOB

3. What is your favorite book and why?

I LOVED 'Jane Eyre.' I just loved her character. I wish I could be like her. : )

4. What would be your ideal vacation spot?

Anywhere I didn't have to cook.  : )

5. If you had to choose, what would you do: Read or Write?

Read!

6. What is your favorite spot to read?

Probably on the living room couch.

7. Which blogger has been your biggest inspiration?

It's really hard to just pick one! I follow a lot of blogs and have been inspires by so many of them. Here's just a few bloggers who have encouraged me with their comments and have inspired me through their blogs:

Juana: Juana Mikels
Emily: Emily Wierenga
Michelle: Sweet Treats and Inspiration
Ashley: This Southern Girl's Heart

8. If you could choose any person in the world to spend the day with, who would it be?

My grandmothers. They both passed away when I was very young and therefore I never got to know either of them. I always wished I have a grandma. Love and appreciate your grandmas! : )

9. What are your other hobbies (besides reading)?

I love gardening.

Part of my garden in May

10. What inspires you daily?

People who love like Jesus.

Questions asked by Gwen:

(Gwen asked some of the same questions so I've only included the ones that were different)

1. What do you enjoy most about blogging, and would you recommend it to others?

I'd have to say other bloggers. It's been so great getting to know people from all over the world who have the same interests.

I would only recommend it to people who want to write about what they love. Those are the best blogs. : )

2. Is there a book you didn't think you'd like, but you ended up loving it?

Fiction - "Iscariot: A novel of Judas" - I was a little leery going into this book because I wasn't sure where this author would go with the character of Judas, but it ended up being more about Jesus and His love for us. Very thought-provoking novel.

Non-Fiction - "Son of Hamas" - It wasn't at all what I thought it would be. I thought it would be a bit boring and political but ended up being so heartfelt and personal.

3. What would be your ideal vacation spot or dream vacation?

England

4. How many books are on your TBR shelf?

To many to count! I usually have a small stack of what I want to read next, but almost always end up switching them up. : ) Here's my small stack for now. I'll be adding 'Bleeding Heart' by Amber Stokes, which I just ordered, and I've been trying to find Elisabeth Elliott book, 'Through Gates of Splendor' at the library, but haven't had any luck yet.

5. Do you have a favorite snack while reading?

I don't usually like eating when I read, especially if its a brand new book. I don't like food stains on my pretty books!

6. What's one of your biggest book pet peeves?

I'd have to say when an author repeats themselves throughout the book. Especially in a book series. I hate reading the first 4 chapters of a second book which just recaps the last book in the series. I already read book one! ; )

  1. Hi, Cathy!

I don't know if your background is super new or not, but I'm just loving the colors on your blog! Beautiful - and very inviting. :)

Anyway, thank you so much for the nomination! I appreciate your thoughtfulness. :) I did post about the award and my responses to some questions earlier this week, which you can read HERE. So I'm not planning on doing another post...but I'll respond to your questions here, if that works. :)

    1. I just finished Watermark by Krissi Dallas last night...and while it had its very poignant and sad moments, I did love it - her "Phantom Island" series is just awesome!

    2. Definitely reserved! Social functions make me all nervous, LOL.

    3. Oooh, that's tough! One of my favorites lately has been this Chinese chicken salad my mom makes, along with some warm bread or rolls. Oh my goodness, that salad is like candy - and I don't normally feel that way about salad or vegetables at all, LOL. ;) And every good dinner should be followed by dessert, in my opinion!

    4. I've been inspired and blessed by so many bloggers... (I totally agree with what you said about other bloggers being the most enjoyable part about blogging. The friendships I've made mean so much to me!) But I'll go with Renee from Black 'n Gold Girl's Book Spot, because she was the one who helped me so much when I was first starting out, and her parties and blog tours inspire me. :) She's such an awesome, supportive person!

    5. Oooooh, another really tough question! I'm going to cheat and pick a character from one of my own books. While all of my characters are very dear to me, Myghal has definitely stolen my heart. :) Of course, my first hero, David (from Forget Me Not) holds a special place in my heart, too!

    6. My mom and my grandma, I believe. My mom, because she works so hard for our family, sacrificing and trying her best to help us all make good memories together. She's so sweet and generous, staying positive and strong. :) And my grandma, because she's the most thoughtful person I know. She's my kindred spirit, and her love has meant so very much to me.

    7. Hmmm...depends, I guess! I like flying - the airport experience and being in the air feels so adventuresome to me. :) But I like driving with my family (my mom always drives us on vacations, as she doesn't like flying). And I finally know how to drive, myself, so I think that's cool, though not my favorite thing in the world to do. ;) If there was a third option, I'd add train travel! Of course, it's not great if you're in a hurry to get anywhere, but there's something very special to me about trains. :)

    8. Most recently The Civil Wars. Love their music!

    9. Depends. :) I think I'll pass on this one!

    10. Fiction, definitely! Reading non-fiction often feels like a chore to me - maybe because it reminds me of school? Haha. But really, I love being swept away into a story. That's what makes reading fun, for me!

Thank you again for nominating me, Cathy! I love your responses, and I'm especially blessed to know you ordered Bleeding Heart - thank you!! I hope you enjoy it. :)

    1. Thanks for answering my questions Amber! I did recently change my background. I really love the sun shining through the trees.

I love what you wrote about your mom and grandma, they are blessed ladies to have you. I'm also excited to receive your book! Now I'm looking forward to meeting Myghal.

Appreciate you taking the time to stop by and answer my questions. Enjoyed reading them. : )

  2. Loved reading your answers, Cathy! "Jane Eyre" is such a great novel. :-) "Iscariot: A Novel of Judas" does sound like a story I'd pass up, but I'll check it out since you said Jesus has more of the spotlight. Bless you, my friend!

  3. Repetitions in books are not my favorite either. ''Iscariot'' was indeed a GREAT read!! 'Thought-provoking' is right.

    Lovely answers, Cathy!

Many thanks for the nomination. So looking forward to answering. I'll add my answers to my post on the Liebster Award.

I always enjoy visiting your blog. :)) It's simply lovely.

  6. Thank you so much Cathy for the award! I don't have the time to write a post, but I wanted to answer anyway, so here goes:

    1. What's the last book you thoroughly enjoyed start to finish?
I finished My Own Mr. Darcy recently and loved it! I could barely put it down, which is not the norm for this busy mama

    2. Are you outgoing or reserved?
I'm certainly an introvert, but with my friends I'm fairly chatty (not really an answer, but it's the best I've got)

    3. What is your favorite meal?
At this stage of my life, I love meals I don't have to make or clean up after, it doesn't really matter what the food is! At a different stage in life my favorite meal was old-fashioned pot roast with potatoes carrots and parsnips...

    4. Which blogger has been your biggest inspiration?
I'm not sure there is just one, I found yours early on and gained great knowledge from it, I also enjoy Courtney's style at WomenLivingWell and I gain great strength from Ann's writing at A Holy Experience - so I hope that somehow all of that has influenced how I write

    5. Who is your all time favorite character in a book?
I'm sticking with Ann Shirley Blythe of Green Gables. Should need no real explanation for anyone who's read the books ;)

    6. Who do you look up too the most and why?
I always hate this answer, because I don't have such a role model - when I need calm words I think of my mom, when I need courage and strength I think of papa, when I need tenacity I think of my father, when I need help with my house I think of my grandma... the list sort of goes on, it depends on what I'm looking for I guess

    7. Do you prefer driving or flying?
I love that flying is quick but there is nothing like a good road trip

    8. What are you listening too on your ipod or cd player?
Right now, it's Veggie Tales silly songs! But enjoy a wide variety

    9. If you could choose any person in the world to spend the day with, who would it be?
    Hmmm... not sure...

    10. Do you prefer reading fiction or non-fiction? Why?
This is tough too! I used to say fiction without hesitating, as I loved to experience a new world, but now I can also really get into the non-fiction world as I search for support in being a mom and wife

Again Thanks Cathy! Love seeing what you're writing and reading!

    1. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions Marissa! I enjoyed reading them.

I'm with you on the quick easy meals! Cooking is just not my gifting. : )

I'm going to have to look up 'My Own Mr. Darcy'...now I'm curious.

Glad I could be of some inspiration to you! I love Courtney's blog too. She's so sweet and real. I haven't read to much of Ann's blog, I'll have to look at it a bit more.

Glad you stopped by! : )

  7. Yay! CONGRATS, Cathy. Always fun to put these sorts of posts together.

Love what you said about what you enjoy most about blogging and the advice you'd give would-be bloggers. That's an excellent answer.

PS: Hope you enjoy/ed Amber's novel. It's really sweet and well written in a very non-traditional albeit good way! :)
